Vanessa is Deputy Chief Executive of MEI. Before joining MEI in 2018, Vanessa was an Assistant Director at the Department for Education where she held responsibility for maths education policy and programmes and worked on STEM education issues.
Over recent years, Vanessa has led policy reforms to maths, other STEM education and primary phonics/literacy. Vanessa has extensive experience in curriculum and qualification change, pedagogy, mastery and cognition, as well as education policy development. She is passionate about using her PhD and academic background in cognitive psychology to underpin her approach to education, and deep commitment to evidence-based strategies and interventions.
